Born on 29 September 1976 in the city of Yahotyn, Kyiv Oblast. Married, has four sons.

As a footballer, he played as a striker for Dynamo Kyiv, Italy’s Milan, and England’s Chelsea.

Honored Master of Sports of Ukraine (2003).

Holds the title of Hero of Ukraine (2004) for exceptional sporting achievements, an outstanding personal contribution to the development of Ukrainian football, and for enhancing Ukraine’s prestige in the world.

Recipient of the Orders “For Merit” I, II, and III class, the Order “For Courage” III class, and the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise V class.

In August 2022, became a laureate of the “National Legend of Ukraine” award.

Five-time champion of Ukraine in football, champion of Italy in football.

In 2003, became the first Ukrainian to win the UEFA Champions League.

Winner of the Ballon d’Or (2004), an award presented to the best footballer in Europe.

The first Ukrainian footballer to play 100 matches for the national team of Ukraine.

The all-time top scorer of the national team of Ukraine (48 goals).

Captain of the Ukrainian national team which, at the 2006 World Cup under the leadership of Oleh Blokhin, reached the quarterfinals and finished among the eight best teams in the world.

From 2016 to 2021 — head coach of the Ukrainian national team. Under his leadership, the blue-and-yellows qualified for Euro 2020, where they reached the quarterfinals.

After the full-scale invasion by russia, he became the first ambassador of the UNITED24 platform.

On 25 January 2024, at the 26th Congress of the UAF, he was elected President of the Ukrainian Association of Football.
